Career Assessments

The Career Center invites you to partner with us in providing career assessments to your students in your classroom settings. The following three assessments can benefit students in a variety of ways and be more beneficial at certain levels of career development. After reading the descriptions of each assessment, you can schedule a classroom presentation with a Career Center staff member by filling out the Presentation Request Form below. If you have any questions about any of these assessments and which might be most appropriate for your students, please contact with Jessie Simonik.

*Please note that career assessments are only available for UNC Charlotte students. We are unable to provide assessments for faculty/staff members at this time.

Important Update: Beginning Fall 2026, we will transition to using 16 Personalities and VIA Character Strengths. These new assessments will replace the MBTI and CliftonStrengths in our programming. Faculty and staff may request these presentations on the new assessments through our standard request process.

Career Assessments Options

The PathwayU assessment focuses on personality, interests, values, and workplace preferences. Considering the overlap in all four of these areas, individuals are able to better understand majors and careers that could be a good fit for them. This assessment is self-exploratory but also can be incorporated into classroom presentations, given by a Career Center staff member.

Recommended Class Level: Best-suited for first- and second-year undergraduates in the career exploration stage.

The 16 Personalities assessment is a modern personality framework designed to promote self-awareness and reflection. Grounded in the Big Five personality traits, the assessment explores how individuals gain energy, process information, make decisions, and approach structure, relationships, and stress. Students will examine five personality dimensions (energy, mind, nature, tactics, and identity) to better understand communication styles, teamwork, learning preferences, and workplace tendencies. This assessment encourages reflection on how personality can influence academic experiences, leadership, collaboration and future career environments.

Recommended Class Level: Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors, and Graduate Students

The VIA Character Strengths survey helps students identify their Character Strengths Profile and better understand how their strengths influence their relationships, decision-making, leadership, and overall well-being. This brief survey takes approximately 12 minutes to complete and encourages students to build greater self-awareness while learning how to apply their strengths in academic, personal, and future professional settings. Research shows that intentionally using character strengths can boost confidence, engagement, and resilience, making this assessment applicable to every stage of life.

Recommended Class Level: All
