Large Scale Recruiting Strategies
In order to build and sustain a comprehensive brand on campus, it is important to be a part of large scale events that attract high levels of activity amongst talent. Check out the most common types of events that happen across our campus.
Aside from posting jobs, large career fairs will not only provide your organization with an opportunity for campus-wide branding, but also an opportunity to collect candidates from all parts of the University. These events are open to all students, alumni, local universities/colleges, and the general public.
- Fall Career & Internship Fair - typically beginning of the fall semester; attracting upwards of 4,500 candidates
- Connections Day* - focusing ONLY on engineering students and run by the College of Engineering
- Finance Career Fair* - focusing ONLY on those interested in the risk and finance fields; run by the department
- Part-Time Job Fairs - once per semester and to help highlight part-time and seasonal jobs
- STEM Career Fair - spring semester event attracting 2,500+ candidates
- Spring Career Fair - spring event attracting 2,000+ candidates
- Civil Engineering Day* - once per year and run by the Civil Engineering student club
- Construction Career Fair* - once per year and run by the department
- NC Masters & Doctoral Student Virtual Career Fair - run collaboratively by universities across the State of of North Carolina.
*These events are not managed by the Career Center. We provide operational and registration support, when requested.
Taking a deep dive into particular vertical needs will allow your organization the opportunity to “develop the talent pool” you need now and into the future. Our university has developed targeted networking and connection events to help you zero in on the talent you would like to build and recruit. Although these are educational in nature, students tend to bring their resumes!
- Opportunities For All Mixer - towards the beginning of the fall semester, open to all students. Limited to 40 employers and attracts 500+ attendees
- BISOM Networking Night - Business Information Systems and Operations Management (BISOM) Networking Night with upwards of 40 employers and 100+ students from these programs
- Biotechnology Coffee & Careers - event for our masters and doctoral students from the biological sciences area
- CCI Career & Internship Fair Preview Night*- mixer for computer science students and employers attending the career fair to network and prepare
- Project CLT Event - November opportunity for small businesses to "pitch" their company to students interested in potential internships. (Patnership between the Career Center and the Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation
Targeted and Curated Recruitment Strategies
There are times where you just need to reach a targeted candidate pool or have a "one-off" recruitment need. Or, your interests are not in University-wide branding, but rather specific niches. These are avenues we have available to help you reach the talent you need.
Hire-A-Niner: our data shows that more than 70% of current students engage with our system which means posting your key positions will be seen by a wide audience. Include the pay rate and a strong job description and detailed information about your company and its vision and mission to help candidates understand how their skills, interests, and values intersect with your organization. We do not allow postings of unpaid opportunities.
- System allows you to direct students to your hiring portal
- Allows us to analyze the viewing and interaction rates for your positions to better help you manage your recruitment plans each semester and tweak branding plans as needed.
Pro Tip: Make sure your Employer Profile is updated in Hire-A-Niner and include videos, if available.
There are two ways to obtain resumes from the Resume Books in our system. These books are "opt-in" selections for our students and alumni, providing us their permission to send out their resume.
- General Resume Books - employers can send us a job/internship description they are interested in getting potential candidate resumes. It is important to provide details on specific skills and experience you hope candidates can demonstrate.
- Company Resume Book - employers can request we develop a Book specific to a function, hiring program, or for general interest in all career paths. Our office will make this Book available to students for a period of time and refer all interested candidate resumes to the employer at the conclusion.
Note: Resume Books may not be useful for every opportunity or organization. Check with your Industry Specialist to craft a strategy that works best for your talent needs. Email us at recruit@charlotte.edu to get started.
Because our students pay attention to emails and Hire-A-Niner, we are able to take positions you have available and have posted in Hire-A-Niner and "push them out" through our various channels to provide extra visibility. What we need:
- Job position number from Hire-A-Niner;
- Any deadlines or special instructions; and
- Any marketing collateral to support, if applicable.
We will push your opportunity through Hire-A-Niner, to specific faculty as relevant and through our social media as appropriate. Talk to your Industry Specialist to get started or email recruit@charlotte.edu if you have questions.
