UNC Charlotte offers a broad range of hands-on learning experiences including internships, undergraduate research, co-ops, service learning, senior design projects, micro-internships and on-campus jobs. Talk to your career coach and/or your academic advisor about options that best meet your career interests.
Internships are a specific type of experiential learning, typically involving structured, hands-on work with an employer over a defined period. Other experiential learning options—like research projects, micro-internships, service learning or co-ops—offer similar benefits but may differ in format, timing or setting. The right fit depends on each student’s goals, schedule and field of study.
The University’s centralized platform, Hire-A-Niner, connects students with thousands of internship and co-op opportunities. Career coaches and career communities are also available to help students navigate the process.
Additionally, there are other academic programs that offer experiential learning opportunities as part of their curriculum. Examples of this include the Honors College, the Levine Scholars Program, as well as many majors.
Sometimes your faculty members or other offices on campus may also offer you an opportunity.
UNC Charlotte has a campus-wide commitment to provide career-ready skills for our students. Never hesitate to ask your faculty members, academic advisors or others if they know of opportunities you can explore.
UNC Charlotte guarantees access to internship and experiential opportunities, but securing a specific internship still requires you to apply, interview and be selected by the employer or program.
While many internships and experiential opportunities are paid, not all are. Some offer a stipend or hourly wage while others may be unpaid but provide academic credit or valuable experience.
You should always confirm the compensation or credit structure with an employer or program before accepting an offer, especially for those secured outside of the Career Center.
